The tale of Mirza Sahiban is part of popular Punjabi culture. There are many folk song versions, including the hit version titled "Mirza" sung by the legendary Alam Lohar. He was the first main Punjabi singer to bring this story to a song format and had a distinct way of singing it, with extreme vocal strength with Algoza (Jhori) and Chimta in Missing: Sonny Sahib. The story moves backward in time at this point and we learn more about how Sonny got to his present situation. Sonny's father dies when Sonny is 15 and his mother dies just a couple years later. Since the narrator is in the military and has gone off to war, Sonny has little choice but to move in with Isabel (the narrator's wife) and her g: Sonny Sahib.
